June 20 - I was recently asked to organise an hours’ drive towards the end of lock down when the number of people that can met up was extended.
So I’m sharing this drive.
I chose a trip I did a view years ago organised by Audi.
I’ve done this route with Audi a few years ago driving a mixture of R8, RS5 and RS7, on test day with them. It starts at Thruxton and ends at a good pub.
I used to live close to A338 at place called East Grafton on the road from Hungerford to Burbage. So I actually know this area well. It's Salisbury Plain area so army land used for tank practice so lovely rolling hills, isolated and quiet.
My favourite bit is a section called Fairmile. Close to where I used to live a lovely romanisk road over top of the downs from Lurgershall to Wexcombe. The section out of Upavon up the hill past the RAF base at Upavon to Everleigh is also rather special. (A342).
The Shears Pub on the back road out of Collingbourne Ducis is a possible stop over.
The Hatchet at Lower Chute is special pub that I’ve known since the mid 1980’s. This way we go over the Chute Causeway. Acts as nice book end and for a drink.
This area behind Hungerford on the three counties border (Hampshire/ West Berkshire and Wiltshire) is beautiful.
Evo have just done a pictorial gallery. Its a series but I spotted a couple of photos on my local B4494 with the F40 and the F358 so including.
i) Derbyshire Peak District and ii) Bo Beep Hill
I have just picked up on recent video of one of my favourite cars. A Carrera GT hammering around the Peak district in foul weather. So here is the link its well worth a view. SCD done a really splendid job here featuring Monsal Head near Buxton.
on B4494 HEADing south towards Newbury from WANTAGE
ON ONE OF THE TWISTY BITS OF B4494
After my recent visit to the famous Bo Beep Hill Climb I’m going to start by saying a drive up Bo Beep Lane near Firle, Glyndebourne near to Lewes in East Sussex. This historic drive takes you up a twisty lane to the top of the South Downs. It’s a dead end into a car park.
Next the tour we did end of April 21 a short version of Zig Zag…. Tour guide at the bottom. The boys really enjoyed this…..
Great drives: The B3081 from Shepton Mallet to Christchurch delights in the ancient monuments and splendid scenery that mark this winding route through Dorset including Zig Zag Hill.
Zig Zag hill is one of the best driving roads in Great Britain. It’s part of the B3081 road and is located near Shaftesbury. It’s said to be the windiest one mile stretch of road in Great Britain. Zig Zag Hill is like a concentrated hit of Alpine driving. It lasts for just one mile, but one could be forgiven for believing you are ascending Col de Turini.
Check out the videos at the bottom. The best is the hot 'RUSH to ZIG ZAG'. Gives a great idea of the open spaces and the roads.
